Why full quitting fails
Social media is not one thing. It is messages, groups, school chats, tutorials, and a feed built to be endless. Deleting everything throws out the useful part, so you come back, and the feed comes back with it.
Quit the part that takes the hours
For most people that is Shorts, Reels and the main feed. Messages and search take minutes. Make Yourself blocks only the endless part on Android: YouTube stays and Shorts go, Instagram stays and Reels go. Incognito tabs are closed too.
Count what you are getting back
Put your birthday into Your life in weeks and set your daily phone hours. Seeing how many weeks the feed would take is usually enough reason to keep going on day five.
Give the time a job
The hour you win back has to go somewhere, or it drifts back to the phone. Put it into one task with a timer: training, reading, a skill. Then you can see the hours you took back.
Requirements
Android, from Google Play. Blocking is part of Pro, $1.99 for the first month. Cancel any time in Google Play.
From the founder
I'm Danylo, 17. I used to lose 5-6 hours a day to Shorts, Reels and TikTok. Deleting apps and screen time limits did not work for me; a written plan did. Then I built Make Yourself. Read my story →
