Why Shorts are the problem
A normal video ends. Shorts never do. Every swipe is a new tiny reward, so your brain never gets a natural moment to stop.
What does not work
- Deleting YouTube. You need it for tutorials and music, so it comes back.
- "Not interested" on every Short. The feed just shows you other ones.
- Screen time limits. One tap on "ignore limit" and they are gone.
Block Shorts, keep YouTube
Make Yourself looks at what is on screen. When Shorts open, they are closed. Normal videos, search and subscriptions keep working.
Fill the time you win back
Put the hour into a task with a focus timer, a workout or a book, and watch the hours add up in your statistics.
Requirements
Android, from Google Play. Blocking is part of Pro, $1.99 for the first month. Cancel any time in Google Play.
From the founder
I'm Danylo, 17. I used to lose 5-6 hours a day to Shorts, Reels and TikTok. Deleting apps and screen time limits did not work for me; a written plan did. Then I built Make Yourself. Read my story →
