GUIDE · MONK MODE

Monkmode.

Monk mode is a set period where you cut the noise and work on one thing: you.

What monk mode is

A fixed period, usually 30 to 90 days, where you remove distractions and keep a few strict daily habits. No vows, no robes. Just fewer inputs and more output.

The rules that actually work

  1. No feeds. Shorts, Reels, TikTok off for the whole period.
  2. Train every day. Gym, run or walk. Write it down.
  3. One deep-work block a day. 60 to 120 minutes, phone silent.
  4. Read 10 pages.
  5. Fixed sleep time.
  6. Track your money. Every spend, every day.

Keep it to five or six rules. Twenty rules means you break one on day 2 and quit.

A 30-day plan

  • Week 1: remove the feeds, set the sleep time.
  • Week 2: add the daily deep-work block.
  • Week 3: add training and reading every day.
  • Week 4: keep everything and add nothing. This is the hard week.

Why most people quit on day 6

They cannot see progress. Write a streak, score every day, look back at week 1 on day 30.

Tracking monk mode in one app

Make Yourself was built for this: feed blocking, tasks with focus timers, a workout log, a reading log, a budget and a daily score in one place. Free to start, Pro from $1.99 the first month.

From the founder

I'm Danylo, 17. I used to lose 5-6 hours a day to Shorts, Reels and TikTok. Deleting apps and screen time limits did not work for me; a written plan did. Then I built Make Yourself. Read my story →
